Eye Examination
The most important part of visiting the Opticians is your time with the Optometrist and having a thorough eye examination. Our eye examinations usually require 30 minutes or more so please allow for enough time.
Many of us know that having regular eye examinations is essential to check the health of our eyes and optimise your visual potential. Maybe we are not all as aware of the importance of an eye examination with respect to general health. For example it is not unusual for conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure to be first detected by your Optometrist.
The College of Optometrists recommendations state that we should all have an eye examination at least every two years. Indeed the recommendation for some, including children and the elderly, is for more frequent check ups.
David Wilson Optometrists is registered with the General Ophthalmic Services as a provider of free NHS sight tests.
NHS sight examinations are available for people who fall into the following categories:
Children under 16 yrs of age
Students aged 16-18 who receive full time education.
People aged 60 and over
Personal history of Diabetes or Glaucoma
People aged 40 and over who have a close family member with Glaucoma
Those receiving Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance and certain categories of Pension Credit and Tax Credit
People advised by an Ophthalmologist that they are at risk of developing Glaucoma
People who are partially sighted or registered blind
Those who are entitled to a complex voucher in view of their high prescription
Those who have applied for and been granted an HC2 exemption certificate
Retinal Photography
Using a high quality digital camera we are able to take photographic images of your retina (the back of your eye!). Taking these retinal photographs helps us to monitor the ongoing health of your eyes and detect retinal conditions at an early stage. Retinal photographs are part of our standard eye examination with no extra fee.
Contact Lenses
Your thorough contact lens examination will allow us to recommend a suitable contact lens to best meet your requirements and prescription. As we are not tied to one manufacturer we have an extensive range of contact lenses at our disposal. We are able to fit all types of contact lenses including gas permeable, soft silicon hydrogel and multifocal. In recent years the advances in contact lens technology have allowed us to offer improved vision and comfort to most patients.
Spectacles
With over 1000 frames on show we are sure to be able to find you the perfect frame. Our carefully selected, excellent quality frames range from bold and colourful to more discreet and understated.
Rhianna, our qualified Dispensing Optician, will advise you on your choice of spectacles, taking into account your prescription, style and budget.
We stock luxury fashion brands including Tom Ford along with exclusive designer brands such as Vanni, Max Mara and Morel. We also stock a vast range of entry level frames starting from £29.
Sunglasses
We love sunglasses at David Wilson Optometrists (Rhianna has 17 pairs herself!). We have over 100 sunglasses to choose from with styles to suit everyone. Whilst style is important sunglasses are essential for protecting your eyes from UV exposure and preserving eye health. The majority of our sunglasses are also glazable with your prescription which our Dispensing Optician can advise you on.
